CANCELLED - September Field Trip - Gold Mines & San Jose
Folks,
Tuesday 24th September.
This month we earmarked San Jose as the field trip destination. However, at the club meeting, it was suggested we should also visit the old gold mines complex at Rodalquilar, which is on the way, within the Cabo de Gata. There is also a botanical centre nearby.
Thanks to Vic Ashley for sending a link (see below), and a couple of route suggestions. It certainly looks like a very interesting location, full of photographic opportunities.
From Vic...
A web address with some information is :- http://www.unique-almeria.com/lost-gold-mines.html the site gives a fair overview of the history of the mine. There is also a disused village where the miners lived and a botanical garden.
As to getting there I have used both of the 2 simpler ways:
1) Take A7 to junction 481 signposted Comphermoso and follow the ALP 208 to the junction with ALP 826 vicinity of Las Hortichuelas.
Turn right onto ALP 826 and follow to Rodalquilar.
2) Take A7 to junction 479 signposted San Jose. Follow ALP 206 to roundabout then take ALP 202 signposted San Jose.
Turn left at junction with ALP 826 and follow to Rodalquilar.
If it's OK with everyone, we'll meet at Rodalquilar @ 11am. As it's probably a good hours drive from our area, it would make sense to car share where possible, so if you're thinking of going and have a couple of spare seats, please advise on the forum.
Also, if you ARE thinking of coming along, please reply to this post with a 'yes', just so we get a feel for numbers... Thanks!
I'll have a look on Google Earth, and try to find an exact meeting point (cafe/bar), and will post details on here. After the visit to the mines, we'll probably move on to San Jose for lunch, if that's ok with everyone.
Rgds,
Howard

Re: CANCELLED - September Field Trip - Gold Mines & San Jose
OK Folks...
Here are the meeting point details for next Tuesday's field trip (24th Sep).
Make your way to Rodalquilar, as per Vic's instructions above. The gold mine complex is on the outskirts of Rodalquilar, and you peel off the road just before entering the village, where the road terminates at a visitor centre (probably closed!). If Google Earth is anything to go by, there is a small car parking area beside this building...
Please try to be there for 11 am. Also, please note, as there are no facilities there, and any bar/shop, such as there is in the village, is not near, it is advised to bring along some liquid refreshments.
After we have wandered round there, we will continue on to San Jose for a further wander round... and lunch!
Again, pulease!... just add a post here if you are coming along, so we know who should be turning up on the day. If anyone wants to come, but doesn't have transport for the day, let us know on the forum, and I'm sure something can be arranged.
Rgds,
Howard
